Facts about the Millage Renewal
The election date is Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
The proposal is for a 3 year renewal of the enhancement millage.
The renewed millage is 1.5 mills. This amounts to $90 per year for a house with a value of $120,000.
Because it is a renewal, passage of the millage will not increase taxes. A failure of the millage will reduce taxes.
The nine local school districts currently receive over $11 million per year from the enhancement millage. KPS receives $3.8 million per year.
Approval requires a simple majority of all of those voting in the nine school districts in KRESA.
The nine school districts in KRESA are : Kalamazoo, Portage, Comstock, Parchment, Gull Lake, Galesburg-Augusta, Climax-Scotts, Vicksburg, and Schoolcraft.
Funds are distributed on an equal per student basis to all nine of these school districts.
