KPS Facilities Assessment

In June of 2009, the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education hired TowerPinkster to provide a facilities assessment of each site and building within the district. The purpose of this study is to provide a baseline "benchmark" for determining a comprehensive facilities plan for the next 15 years.

TowerPinkster reviewed existing resources provided by Kalamazoo Public Schools and completed physical tours of each building. Al Tyler, Executive Supervisor - Facilities Management and Karen Jackson, Executive Assistant - Facilities Management led tours along with TowerPinkster representatives from each discipline: Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Mechanical and Electrical.

This report represents a "snapshot in time" in the life of each building. The buildings were evaluated on an "as is" basis at the time of the evaluation tours. Facility upgrades that are in mid-contract (under construction) during the summer of 2009 were evaluated to include any work under contract. Items identified in the 2006 bond, and not under contract, are listed as recommended improvements with a footnote reading "funded in 2006 bond and scheduled for construction in 2010."
